Immigration operation: 23 arrested, 148 searched
During the operation, immigration officials searched 148 foreigners in and around the market area.
In an operation conducted on Tuesday, immigration authorities intensified their efforts to curb illegal immigration by targeting the bustling local market area in Male, a zone known for its significant foreign presence.
During the operation, immigration officials searched 148 foreigners in and around the market area. The operation aimed to ensure compliance with immigration laws and maintain order in a region often described as heavily influenced by foreign nationals.
As a result of the inspections:
-
Twenty-three individuals, including 22 men and one woman, were identified as illegal immigrants and taken into custody.
-
Authorities also carried out a thorough inspection of vehicles parked in the area and those leaving the vicinity, aiming to intercept any additional violations.
The immigration department emphasised that the operation was part of a broader initiative to enforce the country’s immigration laws and address concerns about unregulated activities in areas with a high concentration of foreigners.
