Housing merged with infrastructure; Haidar transferred to higher education
Planning functions that were previously under the housing ministry have been moved to the finance ministry.
Ministry of Housing, Land and Urban Development has been dissolved, with its housing-related responsibilities now transferred to the Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure. As part of the changes, housing minister Dr Ali Haidar has been appointed as the new higher education minister.
Former higher education minister Dr Mariyam Mariya has been reassigned as the Minister of Agriculture and Animal Welfare.
In addition, planning functions that were previously under the housing ministry have been moved to the finance ministry.
Following the merger of ministries and the redistribution of responsibilities, Moosa Zameer has been appointed as the Minister of Finance and Planning. Dr Abdulla Muththalib will now oversee the newly combined Ministry of Construction, Housing, and Infrastructure.
The new appointments were made during a ceremony held at the President’s Office on Thursday.
Mariya, who was previously the Minister of Higher Education, was also appointed as the acting Agriculture Minister after the resignation of Dr Aishath Rameela earlier in December due to health reasons.
