Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) said on Sunday that a foreign vessel identified within the Maldives’ Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) was a Sri Lankan-registered fishing vessel.
A drone detected the vessel during a patrol operation in the Maldives’ EEZ on Thursday night.
Providing further details, the MNDF stated:

The vessel was Sri Lankan-registered.

Three individuals were onboard.

The vessel has been handed over to the police for further investigation.
The MNDF also noted that a vessel entering Maldivian territory without authorisation was recovered last month.
Additionally, a Somali dinghy was seized last week for unauthorised entry into Maldivian waters.
