White alert issued for most atolls amid cyclone impact

Maldives Meteorological Office on Thursday issued a white alert for all but the northernmost atolls due to the ongoing effects of a cyclone and its associated low-pressure trough.

The MET office stated on Wednesday that these weather conditions are expected to persist for the next five days.

Alerts for Thursday include:

Winds between 19 and 24 mph
Heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and gusts of up to 40 mph

The public has been advised to exercise caution while traveling during the holiday period.
