More than 30,000 tonnes of water have been drained from Male following heavy rains that began on Friday, causing flooding across various parts of the capital city.

The drainage operation, conducted by the army, started at 11:37 am on Friday and concluded at 8:30 am on Saturday. A total of 17 water pumps were installed in different areas of the city to address the waterlogging.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) reported that 226 individuals from 36 households have been evacuated to temporary shelters as part of the relief efforts.

Heavy rains have also caused flooding in multiple islands across the Maldives. The NDMA and related authorities continue to monitor the situation and provide assistance where necessary.
