MVR 1.4 million from Fazul's house linked to speedboat

The MVR 1.4 million recovered from the residence of former Housing Development Corporation (HDC) Managing Director Ibrahim Fazul Rasheed, accused of corruption, was intended for the construction of a speedboat, according to a company statement.
Police raided Fazul’s residence following allegations of misconduct, including the illegal allocation of a plot of land to his brother. Fazul, who had been suspended from his post, resigned before the investigation concluded.
During the raid, authorities seized MVR 1.4 million in cash.
Relax Ferry Service, a company providing ferry services to some provinces, addressed the matter in a post on its Facebook account on Sunday. The company stated that it had previously collaborated with Fazul’s company in 2022 to construct a speedboat.
The post explained that a second boat was commissioned early last year due to the performance of the first one. Relax Ferry Service said MVR 1.4 million was paid in cash for the second boat earlier last month.
Fazul shared the post on his X account.
Police have yet to confirm the company’s claims or provide further updates on the investigation.
