Maldivian arrested over Sri Lanka's Argam Bay terror threat
Earlier in the case, a son of a Maldivian man was also arrested.
A Maldivian man has been arrested in connection with an attempted attack in the Argam Bay area in Sri Lanka in October.
Maldives' ambassador to Maldives Masood Imad confirmed to Atoll Times on Sunday that the Sri Lankan government has informed the Maldives embassy about the arrest of a Maldivian individual.
Further details regarding the arrest have not been disclosed by the ambassador.
Earlier in the case, a son of a Maldivian man was also arrested. However, it was reported that the individual does not possess a Maldivian ID card or passport.
The US embassy in Sri Lanka issued a statement indicating it had received information about a planned terrorist attack in the Argam Bay area in October.
Following the US embassy’s statement, Sri Lankan security forces increased vigilance in the Argam Bay area and initiated an investigation. Media reports at the time revealed that three individuals, including the son of a Maldivian man, were detained as part of the inquiry.
