Maldives Meteorological Service (MET) has forecasted clear skies for Sunday, with rainfall expected to resume Monday afternoon or night.
The MET office noted that weather conditions remain unsettled following heavy rainfall at the start of the year.
A MET office official stated that cloud formations near Sri Lanka, particularly to the east, are expected to influence the country's weather in the coming days.
The official provided the following updates:
-
Heavy rains with thunderstorms are expected in various parts of the country.
-
Strong winds and rough seas are anticipated from Wednesday to Friday.
-
Cloud cover is likely to diminish by next Saturday.
The Maldives has entered its sunnier season, typically starting in January, but this year has seen significant deviations from normal patterns. The official attributed this unusual weather to climate change, emphasising that two major cloud systems have impacted the country since the start of the month.
Heavy rainfall and potential flooding are expected in several areas. The MET office has urged residents to take precautions and prepare for these conditions.
