Forms allegedly bearing Aaaly’s signature as a witness for new memberships have been shared on social media.

Deputy Home Affairs Minister Ahmed Aaaly, responsible for overseeing the Department of National Registration (DNR), on Monday denied allegations circulating on social media claiming his involvement in facilitating membership recruitment for the ruling Progressive National Congress (PNC).

The PNC has recently launched a large-scale membership drive. Over the past two weeks, forms allegedly bearing Aaaly’s signature as a witness for new memberships have been shared on social media. Some have also accused the DNR of leaking personal information to aid the campaign.

Responding to the allegations, Aaaly stated that he had not signed any forms as a witness for PNC membership.

"I saw about two photos of forms with different signatures attributed to me on social media. I believe these signatures are fabricated," he told Atoll Times.

On claims that the DNR has shared personal information, Aaaly clarified that the department does not store copies of individuals’ ID cards in any format.

"We do not retain soft copies of ID cards, nor is there any mechanism for anyone to obtain personal information, ID card copies, or signatures from the DNR," he said.

The issue has gained attention amid reports of prominent figures, including MDP MP Hussain Ziyad and former Heritage Ministry State Minister and former MP Mohamed Thoriq, joining the PNC.

Aaaly emphasised that the allegations were baseless and reiterated the department’s commitment to safeguarding personal information.
