President Mohamed Muizzu on Tuesday assured that development projects in Muraidhoo and other areas will proceed without difficulties and within the allocated budget.
Speaking during his visit to HA. Muraidhoo as part of his ongoing tour of Haa Alif Atoll, the president stated that efforts are underway to address challenges and prioritise development.
The president acknowledged that progress on certain projects had been delayed last year due to economic challenges and budget constraints. He explained that the previous budget did not adequately facilitate development projects in smaller islands like Muraidhoo.
"The focus last year was on addressing economic priorities, and the budget was not structured in a way to support development projects in many islands," the President said.
He noted that the recent parliamentary elections, which gave the government a majority in parliament, have created an opportunity to better align the budget with the needs of the people.
President Muizzu emphasised that his development plans are deliberate and part of a broader vision. He highlighted that many projects had been stalled for over a year, not due to a lack of funding but because of other challenges.
“Discussions have been held with the relevant government ministries and companies to identify ways to overcome these difficulties,” the President said.
He reiterated that the projects promised during the election campaign, as well as stalled initiatives, would be implemented.
"These projects will be carried out through the opportunities provided in the budget passed by parliament. They will begin this year and continue into next year," he added.
The president also assured the people of Muraidhoo that the development projects prioritised for their community would be completed.
