The protest, which took place on the night of March 10th, reportedly violated the Peaceful Assembly Act and disrupted public order.
The police have cited that the actions of Zubair and Shiuna during the protest were in violation of the law. Specifically, the two activists were accused of engaging in behaviour that could disrupt public transportation and obstruct the duties of the police during the demonstration.
The summons was issued on Saturday, and the two individuals are ordered to appear before the authorities on Monday for further investigation.
The situation surrounding this protest has gained considerable attention following an accusation by Mariyam Zubair. She had alleged that the behaviour of President Mohamed Muizzu son led to the ban on vape products in the Maldives, sparking public debate.
In response to these claims, First Lady Sajidha Mohamed has taken legal action, deciding to file a lawsuit against Mariyam Zubair MDP Chairman Fayyaz Ismail, and the MDP party itself.
