Broadcom's Fazeen resigns amid parliamentary dismissal process
Parliament’s Independent Institutions Committee has been investigating the case since January and approved the dismissal process on 5 March.
Mohamed Fazeen, Vice-President of the Maldives Broadcasting Commission (Broadcom), has resigned from his position following the initiation of a parliamentary process to remove him over allegations of sexual discrimination against a female employee.
Parliament’s Independent Institutions Committee has been investigating the case since January and approved the dismissal process on 5 March.
In a letter addressed to President Mohamed Muizzu, Fazeen stated that he had decided to resign as he believed it was not possible for him to continue fulfilling his responsibilities independently.
Alongside his resignation, Fazeen issued a statement signed by his lawyer denying the allegations.
“The fact that no further evidence has been presented to support this case by the commission, the Independent Institutions Committee of Parliament, or the police investigation is one of the reasons why this is a blatant lie,” the statement read.
Fazeen was appointed as a member of Broadcom on 7 March 2021 and was later named Vice-President of the commission on 19 January 2023.
