Parliament on Tuesday approved President Mohamed Muizzu’s decision to abolish two ministries and revise the mandates of three others.

The Ministry of Housing and Planning has been dissolved, with its functions reassigned to the Ministry of Construction and the Ministry of Finance. The Ministry of Climate Change, Environment and Energy has also been abolished, with its responsibilities transferred to the Ministry of Tourism.

Under the constitution, any structural changes to government ministries require parliamentary approval. The president had submitted the proposed changes twice for consideration. The Government Accountability Committee, after reviewing the matter, endorsed the amendments as proposed.

Following the restructuring, the ministries have been renamed as follows:

  • Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure

  • Ministry of Finance and Planning

  • Ministry of Tourism and Environment

The parliament in its Tuesday's sitting approved the changes with 50 votes in favour.
