The Ministry of Home Affairs has collected information on more than 100,000 foreigners as part of Operation ‘Kurangi’, an initiative launched in May last year to address the issue of illegal immigrants.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the ministry provided an update on the progress made over the past 10 months.

According to the ministry, data on more than 100,000 foreigners has been recorded, with over 65,000 entries from the Male region alone. The ministry has urged any remaining foreigners who have not yet provided their information to do so before 30th of next month.

The ministry announced that deportation procedures for illegal immigrants will commence after this deadline.

According to the statement:

  • Over the past five years, data on approximately 40,000 foreigners had been collected.

  • The issue of undocumented foreigners has remained unresolved due to limited practical measures by previous governments.

  • The ministry aims to implement a permanent solution through the ongoing operation.

The Home Ministry continues to call on all relevant individuals to cooperate with the operation before the deadline.
