President Mohamed Muizzu on Friday appointed former Police Commissioner Ahmed Faseeh as the Controller General of Immigration, following the dismissal of Mohamed Shamaan Waheed from the post.
Presidential Spokesperson Heena Waleed announced the appointment, stating that Faseeh has been appointed at the level of state minister. The announcement was made via a post at 3:35 am on Friday.
Ahmed Faseeh’s background:

Served in the police force for over 20 years.

Held the position of Police Commissioner during the administration of former President Mohamed Nasheed.

Retired following the events of 7 February 2012.

Served as a member of the Police Board under former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

Completed the FBI General Course of Instruction at the FBI National Academy, US Department of Justice, Quantico, Virginia.
The government has not provided a reason for Shamaan Waheed’s removal. However, the police announced an investigation into allegations that some immigration officers were abusing their positions for personal gain involving foreign nationals.
