
Maldives declares Sunday as Eid-ul-Fitr
Earlier, Saudi Arabia announced that the Shawwal moon had been sighted, declaring Sunday as Eid-ul-Fitr.
Eid-ul-Fitr will be observed in Maldives on Sunday following the sighting of the Shawwal moon in several Islamic countries.
Saturday marks the 29th day of Ramadan, and a special ceremony was held at the Islamic Centre to determine the beginning of Shawwal.
Following the deliberations of the Moon Sighting Committee, Islamic Minister Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed issued a resolution confirming that the crescent moon had been sighted in some Islamic countries.
Earlier, Saudi Arabia announced that the Shawwal moon had been sighted, declaring Sunday as Eid-ul-Fitr. Saudi Arabia also observed the 29th day of Ramadan Saturday, with astronomers monitoring the sky from telescope centres across the country.
