The Ministry of Housing has clarified that it will only consider third-party complaints regarding flat recipients in the government’s Gedhoruveirya housing scheme if those complaints are submitted via letter or email.

This clarification follows a review of the revised beneficiary list of the scheme, which was published in February. The deadline for submitting complaints about the list closed on Tuesday.

In a statement issued Thursday evening, the ministry revealed that more than 7,000 complaints had been received through various channels. These include 5,326 complaints submitted through the homeowners portal, where 4,625 applicants filed complaints. Of those, 2,555 were individuals listed among the 4,000 flat recipients confirmed by the ministry.

An additional 2,840 complaints were received through the ministry's designated email address, and 526 came via physical letters.

However, the ministry emphasised that only complaints sent by a third party through email or letter—regarding the eligibility or selection of individuals on the recipient list—will be formally considered.

The ministry also confirmed the results of a recent verification of the list of flat recipients under the landlord scheme. Following the review, 1,820 individuals have been deemed eligible for housing. These include 397 individuals approved for two-bedroom flats and 1,423 for three-bedroom flats.

This marks a significant reduction from the figures announced by the previous administration, which had listed 4,939 people as eligible for two-bedroom units and 3,721 for three-bedroom units.
