The government has begun evaluating proposals submitted in response to the announcement seeking technical advisors for the proposed bridge connecting Hithadhoo and Hulhumeedhoo in Addu City, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu said on Saturday.

Speaking at a press conference at the President’s Office—his first with journalists in nearly one and a half years—the President delivered a presentation outlining updates on government commitments and infrastructure projects.

The President stated that the detailed engineering design for the Hithadhoo-Hulhumeedhoo Bridge will be submitted as part of the tendering process. He added that the project remains a presidential commitment. The design and feasibility study for the bridge were carried out by The Arab Contractors, a company affiliated with the Egyptian government.

In addition to the Addu bridge, the President provided updates on other bridge developments across the country.

According to the presentation:

  • 51% of the Thilamalé Bridge has been completed.

  • Technical evaluations of proposals submitted to the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) for a pre-feasibility study of the proposed bridge connecting Thilafushi to Giraavarufalhu and Uthuru Thila Falhu (UTF) were completed on the 30th of last month.

  • The Economic Council has approved the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the selected party to prepare the technical and financial proposal for the proposed bridge between GDh. Kaadedhdhoo and Thinadhoo.

The President said these projects are being implemented in accordance with the government's infrastructure development strategy.
