
MET forecasts rain, rough seas as southwest monsoon strengthens
The MET Office had earlier noted the onset of the southwest monsoon in the southern Maldives last week.
The Maldives Meteorological Service has forecast rainfall across various parts of the country over the next three days as the southwest monsoon strengthens.
According to the MET Office, the southwest monsoon is expected to intensify, bringing heavy rain, thunderstorms, strong winds, and rough seas in some areas.
The agency stated that:

Sea conditions will be rough in affected regions

The criteria used by the MET Office to determine the onset of the southwest monsoon are:

Rainfall of 2.5 mm or more in the southern atolls

Winds from the southwest to west, with gusts exceeding 10 knots per hour
These conditions must persist for two consecutive days or more for the monsoon to be officially declared as having begun.
