Broadcom suspends Secretary General
Employees of the commission recently submitted a petition to the Parliament expressing concern over the actions of the commission’s chairperson.
The Broadcasting Commission (Broadcom) has suspended its Secretary General, Mariam Zeeniya, for three days over allegations of non-cooperation and failure to adhere to commission decisions.
The decision was made during a meeting of the commission held Tuesday.
Broadcom President Safa Thaufeeq confirmed the suspension to Atoll Times, stating that it was an administrative action taken in relation to a behavioural matter.
“She was administratively suspended for three days for a behavioural issue. That is, for not cooperating with the commission’s decisions and not respecting the commission,” said Safa.
When contacted, Zeeniya declined to comment on the suspension.
The suspension comes amid ongoing internal issues at Broadcom. Employees of the commission recently submitted a petition to the Parliament expressing concern over the actions of the commission’s chairperson and certain members. The petition alleges interference by the commission’s leadership in the responsibilities of the Secretary General and departmental directors.
The petition calls on the Parliament to investigate the matter.
