The Broadcasting Commission (Broadcom) has suspended two of its senior officials amid an ongoing investigation related to issues with the commission’s server.

Broadcom’s President, Safa Thaufeeq, confirmed to Atoll Times that IT Officer Ahmed Fazeel has been suspended for a period of seven days, effective Wednesday. Thaufeeq stated that the suspension is linked to a server-related issue that is currently under police investigation.

Police confirmed that digital data technicians had been deployed to assist the commission in addressing technical issues with its server infrastructure. However, authorities noted that the investigation is not connected to a specific criminal case.

In addition to Fazeel, the commission’s Secretary General (SG) Mariyam Zeeniya has also been suspended for three days. Her removal followed an internal complaint raised by commission employees, who submitted a petition to Parliament expressing concern about the conduct of commission members.

The SG’s suspension came after she was reportedly arrested for failing to comply with commission decisions and for displaying conduct deemed disrespectful to the institution.

Following her suspension, staff at the commission halted work in protest. According to Broadcom Head of Office Ahmed Rashid, operations were disrupted as the office server was down when the SG arrived yesterday.

The situation remains under review as the police and commission continue to examine the matter.
