A man has been arrested in connection with the cutting and damaging of cables in a STELCO electricity distribution panel in Malé, which resulted in power outages affecting several residences.
The Maldives Police Service stated that seven houses experienced power cuts as a result of the damaged cables Friday evening. Among the affected locations was the main camp of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), which was preparing for a protest at the time.
The suspect, identified as Ismail Sameem from Sh. Milandhoo, was arrested at the scene of the incident. He is currently in police custody as investigations continue.
