
Maldives FM assures India of support in counter-terrorism efforts
Jaishankar expressed appreciation for the Maldives’ continued cooperation and reiterated India’s commitment to supporting the Maldives.

Maldivian Foreign Minister Dr Abdulla Khaleel has assured India that the Maldives will continue to cooperate with India in counter-terrorism efforts.
The assurance was given during his visit to India for the Maldives-India High Level Co-Group meeting.
During the visit, Dr Khaleel held discussions with Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar. According to a statement issued by the Indian External Affairs Ministry and reported by The Hindu, Dr Khaleel condemned the 22 April attack in Kashmir and reaffirmed the Maldives' support for India’s counter-terrorism efforts.
“Dr Khaleel assured that the Maldives will always stand with the people and government of India in its fight against terrorism,” The Hindu quoted the Indian ministry as stating following the bilateral meeting.
Jaishankar expressed appreciation for the Maldives’ continued cooperation and reiterated India’s commitment to supporting the Maldives in its development initiatives.
During the meeting, Dr Khaleel also thanked India for its recent financial assistance to the Maldives.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has also condemned the Kashmir attack in a post on X (formerly Twitter), expressing sorrow over the loss of life. The attack in Pahalgam reportedly claimed the lives of 26 individuals, including tourists. In his statement, President Muizzu reiterated the government’s commitment to combatting terrorism in all forms.
The Maldives-India High Level Co-Group was established to oversee the implementation of bilateral initiatives and agreements discussed during President Muizzu’s visit to India in October last year, at the invitation of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
