A power outage affected Malé, Hulhumalé, and parts of Velana International Airport (VIA) for approximately 30 minutes on Sunday, beginning at 12:30 p.m.
State Electric Company (STELCO) confirmed that the outage impacted the capital region and the airport. The company attributed the disruption to a technical issue and stated that efforts were underway to identify the cause and restore service.
A STELCO official said, “The entire city and airport are currently in a blackout.”
The company issued an apology to the public for the inconvenience caused.
Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), which operates VIA, confirmed that backup generators were activated following the outage. The airport continues to operate under standard procedures using auxiliary power sources.
