First Lady establishes association to address social issues
Sajidha discussed several social challenges, including cyberbullying targeting children and the need for child justice reforms.
First Lady Sajidha Mohamed has announced the formation of a voluntary association aimed at finding solutions to various social issues in the Maldives.
The announcement was made during a committee meeting of the 7th Summit of the Merck Foundation First Ladies Initiative (MFFLI), held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from 18 to 19 June. Sajidha returned to Malé Thursday following the summit.
In her address, the First Lady said the decision to establish the association was inspired by the work of the Merck Foundation. She also presented a video highlighting initiatives she has undertaken over the past six years.
During the meeting, Sajidha discussed several social challenges, including cyberbullying targeting children, the need for child justice reforms, and issues related to food security. She also outlined ongoing efforts to address these concerns.
She conveyed appreciation to the Merck Foundation for its efforts to strengthen the health sector in the Maldives.
This year’s summit was attended by first ladies from 14 countries in Africa and Asia. Discussions focused on improving access to reproductive healthcare, supporting girls' education, empowering women, and addressing shortages in the health workforce through capacity building initiatives.
