The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has reported an increase in cases of diarrhoea, vomiting, and influenza, with the majority of cases recorded in the Malé area.
According to data published by the agency on Thursday, 3,763 cases of diarrhoea and vomiting were reported across the country between 15 May and 5 June. Of these, 2,370 cases were from the Malé region.
During the same period, 239 cases of influenza were recorded, with 228 cases reported in Malé. The HPA noted that influenza cases have been increasing since May.
In its public advisory, the agency urged individuals to practise regular hand washing with soap, particularly after using the toilet and before eating, to help reduce the spread of diarrhoeal infections.
The HPA also advised people to seek medical attention if they experience symptoms such as frequent vomiting, fatigue, reduced fluid intake, or dizziness.
