5 expats arrested in Malé liquor dealing case
Police said all five individuals have been handed over to Immigration Maldives for deportation.
The Maldives Police Service on Wednesday said five foreign nationals were arrested in Malé in connection with liquor dealing.
Police said the arrests were made during a joint operation conducted by the Drug Enforcement and Counter Narcotics Intelligence unit on Monday. During the operation, officers searched an apartment in the city and recovered bottles of suspected liquor and equipment believed to have been used in the production of alcohol.
Those arrested include four Nepali nationals: Diu Kumar Meyongba, 30; Suman Adhikari, 26; Ramji Pariyar, 38; and Bikram Nepali, 27. A Bangladeshi national, Mozammel, 43, was also arrested.
Police said all five individuals have been handed over to Immigration Maldives for deportation. Investigations into the case are ongoing.
