President Mohamed Muizzu has submitted two nominations to Parliament for membership in the Human Rights Commission of Maldives (HRCM).

The nominations follow the upcoming expiry of the terms of two of the five members of the commission on 8 September. The positions were declared vacant, and the names of two candidates were sent to Parliament for consideration.

The President’s letter on the matter was read in Parliament Tuesday. The nominees are:

  • Mohamed Faris Thoha

  • Mohamed Shafeeq Mahmood

The names have been referred to the Human Rights and Gender Committee of Parliament for review.

The current members of the HRCM are:

  • Commission President Mariyam Muna

  • Vice-President Mumina Waheed

  • Member Aminath Shifaath Abdul Razzaq

  • Member Samau Ahmed Najeeb

  • Member Ismail Habeeb Abdul Raheem

The terms of Vice-President Mumina Waheed and Member Aminath Shifaath Abdul Razzaq are due to end next month.
