The Maldives Third-Way Democrats (MTD) has been dissolved and removed from the register of political parties.
The Elections Commission announced in the government gazette on Tuesday that the dissolution took effect the same day.
Under the Political Parties Act, a political party must maintain at least 3,000 members to remain registered. The MTD was dissolved after failing to meet the statutory membership requirement within the given deadline.
The commission had earlier issued a notice to the party in 2022 over the same issue. At that time, the MTD managed to reach the required number of members before the deadline.
The MTD was founded by former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb.
