Baarah MP Ibrahim Shujau earned a total of MVR 2 million last year, according to his financial statement made public on the Parliament website on Monday.

The statement shows Shujau received MVR 1.8 million in salary and MVR 210,000 in rental income in 2024.

He declared ownership of a land plot, a house, and a flat in Hulhumalé. The house was granted to him in 2015 by the company where he was employed. He also owns a house in Baarah.

Two additional land plots were acquired with bank loans. His Hulhumalé property, Daisy Home, is valued at MVR 9 million.

Shujau reported balances totalling MVR 80,235.28 and USD 700.87 across six bank accounts.

He also declared cash holdings of USD 3,200, MVR 5,780, 13,100 Maldivian rufiyaa (cash recorded as Sri Lankan rupees in the statement), and 150 UAE dirhams.

Shujau holds a 50 per cent stake in Official Events and a 40 per cent stake in Swan Family.

He reported liabilities of MVR 4.4 million in loans from Bank of Maldives and Bank of Ceylon. His company, Official Events, has an additional MVR 5 million loan from BML.

He also has an outstanding balance of MVR 78,731 on a Bank of Ceylon credit card with a limit of MVR 100,000.

Parliament has made available the financial statements of all MPs as part of its annual disclosure requirements.
