President Mohamed Muizzu has announced that winners of the National Quran Recitation Competition will be awarded scholarships to pursue degree-level studies up to PhD in any field and in any country of their choice.
In a post on X on Tuesday, the President said the new scholarship programme will apply to winners in the non-observed, observed, and Hafiz categories. He added that the initiative reflects a broader effort to expand both financial and academic rewards for participants.
In addition to the scholarships, winners in the three categories, as well as the institutional category, will each receive MVR 100,000 and a plaque of honour. The President noted that the opportunity for private individuals to sponsor prizes would also be facilitated.
“The greatest encouragement and the greatest rewards should be given to the most beautiful recitation of the Word of Allah,” the President wrote.
The 37th National Quran Recitation Competition began on 18 September and concluded on 26 September at the King Salman Mosque. A total of 1,023 participants from 119 institutions took part.
This year’s competition was fully funded from the state budget, marking the first time in several years that the event has been covered directly by state funds.
