Trees are being planted in the section of Boduthakurufaanu Magu that was recently tarred and opened to the public as part of the ongoing development project in Male’.

The first segment of the project, which is divided into five phases, has now been completed. Photographs released by the Ministry of Construction show garden trees being planted along the newly developed stretch. Prior to redevelopment, shelter trees stood along the side of the bridge in the area.

The next phase will focus on the 250-metre section from the local market to the North Harbour.

According to the Construction Ministry, the main components of the wider development project include:

  • Widening the northern section of Boduthakurufaanu Magu to four lanes

  • Tarring an 830-metre stretch from the Hulhumalé Ferry Terminal to the local market

  • Construction of zebra crossings

  • Installation of drainage systems

  • Installation of road markings and signboards

  • Sheet piling along a 737-metre area

The project was awarded for MVR 144 million, with a completion period of 455 days.
