An Australian man was found dead in the Hithadhoo swimming track beach area in Addu City on Friday afternoon, according to the Maldives Police Service.
Police said the man had initially not been identified and there had been no reports of a missing foreign national.
Authorities later confirmed the identity of the deceased as Australian citizen Daniel D. Giovine.
Police said Giovine was 60 years old and had been living in the Maldives on a work visa.
The body was discovered in the beach area near the Hithadhoo swimming track.
Police said an investigation has been launched to determine the cause of death. No further details were immediately available.
