AEH and IGMH launch catheter laboratory in Addu
Hospital officials said that within two days of the launch, six patients had received treatment through the new facility.
Addu Equatorial Hospital (AEH) and Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) on Wednesday launched a catheter laboratory in Addu.
Under an agreement between the two hospitals, a team of cardiology and interventional cardiology specialists will travel to Addu every two weeks to provide services.
Hospital officials said that within two days of the launch, six patients had received treatment through the new facility.
The service is expected to reduce the need for patients in Addu and the southern region to travel to Malé for the treatment of cardiac conditions, allowing care to be provided within the region.
The hospitals said the programme is intended to deliver the service on a continuing basis.
