Govt to pay Ramadan allowance on 12 February
The circular also noted that employees holding two paid positions will receive the allowance from only one employer.
The government will pay the Ramadan allowance to eligible employees on the 12th of this month, Finance Ministry has announced.
In a circular issued to government agencies Tuesday, the Ministry stated that the Ramadan allowance for Muslim employees has been increased to MVR 3,000 in accordance with amendments to the Employment Act.
The circular also noted that employees holding two paid positions will receive the allowance from only one employer.
Employees who are on paid leave or no-pay leave and are not reporting for duty at the start of Ramadan will not be eligible to receive the allowance. However, employees on paid leave who report for duty at the beginning of Ramadan will be paid the allowance from the date they resume work.
According to the calendar, Ramadan in the Maldives is expected to begin on the 18th of this month.
