Bright Minds owner accused of repeated sexual assault of minor over 2 years

Police have arrested the owner of Bright Minds Tuition Centre on suspicion of sexually assaulting a child over a two-year period.

Police said Ali Aflah, 27, of Hairath, Hulhumalé, was arrested last Wednesday and has been remanded in custody for 30 days following a court order.

According to police, Aflah is accused of repeatedly sexually assaulting a child aged between 14 and 16 while in a position of trust. The alleged victim is reported to have attended Bright Minds Tuition Centre.

Police said investigations are ongoing.

It is reported that Aflah left the Maldives late last year and transferred his share of the tuition centre to members of his family. He was arrested after returning to the country, police said.
