MFDA suspends Handy Water glass bottles over contamination
MFDA said the contamination was identified in drinking water produced by the Handy Water Bottling Plant.
The Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA) on Tuesday ordered the suspension of use of glass-bottled drinking water marketed under the brand name Handy Water after contamination was detected.
In a statement, the MFDA said the contamination was identified in drinking water produced by the Handy Water Bottling Plant. The suspension applies to the following glass bottle sizes:
-
330 ml
-
550 ml
-
1 litre
The authority said the affected water does not meet drinking water standards set by the World Health Organization.
The MFDA advised the public to stop using glass-bottled water of this brand as a precaution, citing potential public health concerns. The suspension will remain in place until further notice.
