Maldives president assures closer ties in meeting with Bangladesh’s new PM
The meeting took place following the oath-taking ceremony of the Prime Minister and the new government of Bangladesh.
President Mohamed Muizzu on Tuesday assured Bangladesh’s newly elected Prime Minister Tarique Rahman of working closely with the Government of Bangladesh to strengthen bilateral relations.

During the meeting, President Muizzu congratulated Prime Minister Rahman and the Bangladesh Nationalist Party on their victory in the 13th parliamentary elections held on 12 February. He reaffirmed the Maldives’ commitment to cooperation with Bangladesh across areas of mutual interest.
Prime Minister Rahman thanked President Muizzu for attending the ceremony. The two leaders discussed cooperation in trade and investment, health, environmental matters, higher education, and air connectivity.
This visit marks President Muizzu’s first official visit to Bangladesh. Diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Bangladesh were established on 22 September 1978.
