Man remanded for 15 days over death threat

A 43-year-old man has been arrested and remanded in custody for allegedly threatening to kill another person, police said.
The suspect was identified as Ahmed Fairish of Noovillge, HA. Hoarafushi. He was produced before the Criminal Court on Wednesday for a remand hearing and was ordered to be held in custody for 15 days.
According to the court order, a witness in the case reported being threatened with harm. The court noted that Fairish has a criminal record, including previous arrests related to threats and assault.
Criminal Court Judge Ali Nadeem said in the order that Fairish had threatened to inflict injuries and that, based on his record, there was a risk of further offences of a similar nature. The judge ordered continued detention in accordance with the Constitution and the Criminal Procedure Act.
Fairish is charged with a felony. Police said they have not released further details of the case.
