Riffath appointed to Elections Commission

Former director of the Elections Commission, Riffath Abdulla, has been appointed as a member of the commission, filling a vacancy that arose last week.
The position became vacant on Saturday following the conclusion of the five-year term of Mohamed Zahir. Riffath’s appointment was approved by the People’s Majlis last week.
Riffath was sworn in and signed the oath of office at a ceremony held at the President’s Office on Monday. The oath was administered by Mohamed Saleem. He was presented with the certificate of appointment by Mohamed Muizzu.
In the parliamentary vote, Riffath received 58 votes, with no votes cast against the appointment.
Five candidates, including the outgoing member Mohamed Zahir, applied for the position. However, only Riffath’s name was submitted to parliament by the President for approval.
Riffath holds a law degree and previously worked in the Elections Commission’s Legal Department from 2017 to 2019. He served as deputy director of the department before leaving the commission.
