Ibrahim Waheed removed as MDP deputy chair

The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has removed its Deputy Chairperson, Ibrahim Waheed, from his position.
The decision was communicated in a letter signed by Acting Chairperson Abdul Ghafoor Moosa on Tuesday. The letter did not state a reason for the removal.
The letter noted that approval from the party’s National Council was not required for the dismissal, and that the decision was made under Article 70 of the party’s charter.
The party also removed its Legal Director, Ahmed Mauroof, on the same day. The letter issued to Mauroof did not include reasons for the decision.
