EC discusses election security arrangements with police, MNDF

EC on Monday announced the recruitment of temporary staff for the presidential elections.

The Election Commission (EC) on Tuesday held a series of meetings with police and military to discuss security plans for next year's presidential elections.

During the meetings held on Tuesday, the EC first met the police. Police commissioner Mohamed Hameed and other senior officers attended the meetings held at Iskandar Koshi. 

EC said: 

  • The main purpose of the meeting was to exchange views on security issues for the presidential elections

  • They discussed security arrangements at polling booths and ensuring smooth conduct of elections as a whole

  • Issues pertaining to the need for police assistance in the functioning of the Election Commission were also discussed

The EC held another meeting with defence minister Mariya Ahmed Didi and senior military officials Tuesday. The meeting was attended by the chief of defence forces, vice chief and senior generals of the armed forces.

The meeting discussed the issue of army assistance for some election arrangements, EC said.

EC on Monday announced the recruitment of temporary staff for the presidential elections. This time, only 11 temporary employees will be hired.

EC has said it is likely to announce the election dates this month.
