Health minister Abdulla Nazim resigns

The other ministers who resigned are Minister of Defence Ghassan, Minister of Foreign Affairs Khaleel, and Minister of Social Development Dr Aishath Shiham.

Minister of Health Abdulla Nazim resigned from his post on Tuesday.

Nazim, who served as the second Health Minister of the current administration, is among several cabinet members who stepped down at the request of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.

The other ministers who resigned are Minister of Defence Ghassan Maumoon, Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Abdulla Khaleel, and Minister of Social and Family Development Dr Aishath Shiham.

Nazim also served as Health Minister during the previous Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) administration.

The resignations come following developments after the recent council elections. Several heads of state-owned enterprises have also been dismissed or asked to resign.

Mohamed Rishwan, Managing Director of Maldives Ports Limited (MPL), resigned last week at the request of the government. Faruhath Shaheer was dismissed as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO). Abdul Matheen resigned as Managing Director of Male’ Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC). Hussain Didi was dismissed as Managing Director of AgroNet, while Mohamed Najah was dismissed as Managing Director of Fenaka Corporation.

Hussain Fahmy has been appointed as Managing Director of MWSC on Tuesday. He previously served as Managing Director of STELCO and as a Minister at the President’s Office.
