77 national service participants depart for technical training in Kihaadhoo

A group of 77 participants in the Maldives National Service Programme has departed for B. Kihaadhoo to begin technical training.
The participants are part of the programme’s second cohort. They were selected from 343 young people who completed the core phase of the National Service Programme and opted to continue into technical specialisation.
The training will be conducted at the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) School of Engineering and Logistics in Kihaadhoo.
According to programme information, the participants are between 16 and 19 years of age and come from 50 islands across the Maldives.
They will receive training in six technical fields.
President Mohamed Muizzu shared photographs of the participants on Wednesday and described the programme as a national initiative aimed at developing responsible citizens.
The President stated that the programme seeks to promote self-reliance, civic responsibility, physical fitness and community service among young people.
The National Service Programme was launched to provide structured training and skills development opportunities for Maldivian youth.
In the programme’s first cohort, 344 participants completed the core training phase, with 63 continuing into technical specialisation.
Applications for the third cohort are currently open.
Participants who complete the National Service Initial Training receive a Certificate 3 qualification in Civic Education and Leadership, along with certificates in Community Volunteer Firefighting and Basic First Aid.
They also receive a certificate issued under the programme’s education and training framework.
The technical training phase is designed to provide participants with practical skills that can be applied in future employment and community service roles.
