Two young men on a fishing trip near Lh. Naifaru captured a crocodile in the lagoon of an uninhabited island on Saturday.

The incident took place in the waters around Dhidhdhoo, an island near Naifaru. The two individuals restrained the crocodile, which measured about six feet in length.

The animal was later handed over to the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF). It was transported by dinghy to authorities.

Crocodile sightings in the Maldives are rare. Such cases are usually handled by the MNDF or police.

Abdulla Hassan, a member of the Naifaru Island Council, said the individuals involved have experience at sea. He said this may have contributed to their ability to capture the animal.

Details of how the crocodile was captured have not been confirmed. Images from the scene show the animal’s snout secured and its limbs tied with rope.
