President Mohamed Muizzu has rejected allegations of corruption related to the development of the Malé taxi application launched by Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).

The application was introduced shortly before the local council elections. Allegations have since circulated claiming that the project was awarded without a competitive bidding process at a cost of MVR 13 million, with questions raised over procurement procedures.

Speaking at a press conference at the President’s Office on Monday, the President said no reports of corruption had been brought to his attention.

“I have not received any information indicating corruption in this matter,” he said.

The President stated that he had been informed of technical issues affecting the application. He said the Ministry of Transport has been instructed to address these issues and ensure the project is implemented in line with established procedures.

He added that no unlawful conduct or actions outside regulatory frameworks would be permitted.

“I have received information that work is ongoing to develop the application further. We will ensure that this matter is resolved through proper channels,” he said.

When asked about allegations of embezzlement, the President said no such findings had been presented to him.

The allegations also include claims that the procurement process was limited to selected suppliers, excluding some companies. Questions have also been raised about the company awarded the contract and its prior experience, as well as possible links to individuals involved in the tender process.

The matter has been submitted to the People’s Majlis for further review.
