Parking zone planned near BML as road expansion continues
Construction is currently ongoing in the Henveiru area, with the section between Maagiri Hotel and the BML Head Office closed to traffic.
Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has announced plans to reclaim part of the lagoon area in front of the Bank of Maldives (BML) Head Office to develop a parking zone.
The work forms part of the Boduthakurufaanu Magu expansion project, which aims to widen the road to 14 metres and create four lanes from the Local Market area to the Henveiru Ferry Terminal.
Construction is currently ongoing in the Henveiru area, with the section between Maagiri Hotel and the BML Head Office closed to traffic.
MTCC confirmed that the decision to reclaim land in the lagoon area has been finalised.
According to information provided by the company:

Reclamation will extend from the area near the Ministry of Foreign Affairs building to City Garden.

The reclaimed land will be used for a parking zone.

Sheet piling works are in progress.

The total sheet pile length for the section is 560 metres, with 260 metres completed.
Following reclamation, a channel will remain between the reclaimed land and the outer breakwater for small vessels.
The Boduthakurufaanu Magu project is divided into five segments. The first segment, from the Presidential Jetty to the Maldives Monetary Authority, was completed in December. The second segment, extending to the North Harbour, was completed between December and February.
The project was awarded to MTCC with a timeline of 455 days and a cost of MVR 144 million.
