Malé mayor assaulted during MDP rally

Malé City Mayor Adam Azim was assaulted during a rally organised by the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) in the capital on Friday night.
Video footage shows the Mayor leading the march when an individual approached from the opposite direction and pushed him in the chest. People accompanying the Mayor were seen responding to the individual following the incident.
The Mayor later sought treatment at ADK Hospital for injuries sustained.
MDP President Abdulla Shahid and Interim Chairperson Abdul Ghafoor Moosa issued statements condemning the incident. They called on authorities to investigate the matter and to provide security for the Mayor.
The Maldives Police Service has not issued a statement regarding the case.
