Member of Parliament for Galolhu South, Meekail Ahmed Naseem, has pledged to disclose detailed information on the finances of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) if elected as chairperson.

Speaking at a campaign rally in Malé on Saturday night, Meekail said he would introduce measures to ensure transparency and accountability in the party’s financial management.

He stated that members would receive regular updates on income, expenditure, and assets, including office equipment. He also said the party’s financial structure would be revised to ensure oversight and that funds would be used for organisational activities.

Meekail said concerns about financial management were raised during his campaign visits ahead of the local council elections.

“Members are asking how funds were managed and where they were allocated,” he said.

He referred to contributions received ahead of the last presidential election and questioned the absence of a financial system that provides clarity to members.

The election for the MDP chairperson position is scheduled for 12 June. Meekail is contesting against former President Mohamed Nasheed.
