Kinbidhoo MP Mohamed Nashiz has been appointed as the campaign manager of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, who is seeking a second term in office.
While the party is planning to hold its presidential primary next month, Atoll Times has learnt that efforts are underway to formally launch President Solih's campaign. A campaign manager has been appointed and a campaign office has been set up.
Two reliable sources confirmed to Atoll Times that Nashiz was to be appointed as the campaign manager.
It is yet to be officially announced. Nashiz did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Nashiz, the husband of Addu Meedhoo MP Rozaina Adam, who has been one of the most vocal defenders of President Solih, is the head of the Parliament's Public Accounts Committee. Nashiz has also chaired the budget committee for the past four years.
President Solih's campaign office was set up in the building of Salt Cafe, where his campaign office was set up during the 2018 presidential election as well. Now an office has been set up there and efforts are underway to formally launch the campaign.
Although former president and MDP president Mohamed Nasheed has not announced that he will run in the primary, sources close to him said he too would be contesting in the primary. Meetings are also being held to kick-start the campaign for the Speaker.

The party is trying to hold the primaries by the end of next month. The final primary dates should be announced by the end of this month.
